This Sunday (18 Oct) is our annual (12th!) Blessing of the Animals. We are looking forward to being joined by members of our church, and local community, and their pets! If you are unable to attend this Sunday, you might like to send Belinda a picture of you and your animal – by 12pm Saturday (17 Oct) – to be included in the slide show (belinda@canbap.org ) Please only bring animals to church that will be comfortable around other animals!
Also, this Sunday (18 Oct) a group of people from our church are leading a service at BaptistCare Griffith at 1.15pm in the Chapel (BaptistCare Griffith). The residents really appreciate these services and enjoy meeting those who come to share it with them. If you would like further information, speak to Merilyn Carey (0414 872 659).
Congratulations to Kerstin and Steve Wallace on becoming grandparents again! Konrad, Fiona, big sister Molly and new baby Tegan are all doing well. Blessing on you all!
Last Sunday, the Kingston Organic Community Garden (KOCG), part of the Currie Crescent Community Centre, held a successful garden stall at Kingston Green Square, raising $1,400 for Canberra Refugee Support (CRS). This is a wonderful achievement and a celebration of the commitment of KOCG members and the generosity of the local community. The funds raised will help support the valuable work that CRS undertakes alongside refugees and people seeking asylum in Canberra. Congratulations to everyone involved in making the day such a success.

Siev X Tragedy Memorial Event
Saturday 17 October

On 19 October 2001, an Indonesian fishing boat, enroute to Australia, sank with the deaths of 146 children, 142 women and 65 men, devastating their families and loved ones. The horror and grief felt in the Australian community, in contrast to the indifference from the then Howard government, prompted a small group of Australians to approach schools, churches and community groups across the country to create and donate remembrance poles, adorned with artwork honouring those who had died. In 2006, the SIEV X Memorial was created.
In today’s environment in which migrants and refugees are being blamed by politicians for the failures of governments to prioritise the needs of ordinary people, the SIEV X Memorial remains as relevant as ever. Speakers include SIEV X Memorial co-founders, Steve Biddulph and Rev Rod Horsfield, veteran Australian journalist, Paul Bongiorno, Lebanese Palestinian scholar and activist, Lina Koleilat and others. Please let your family and friends know about this event, and encourage them to come along. Share the Facebook event on your socials.

Young Families
At Canberra Baptist, we are delighted to have young families, children and babies at church! During worship, we offer:
- Family Corner – in the church foyer with craft, books and (quiet) toys. Feel free to take these into the worship space.
- Creche – a dedicated room in the church hall (turn right after entering the foyer). This room is for 0 to 5 year olds and their carers. It has a bottle warmer, nursing chairs, toys and activities and a live streaming TV so you can see and hear what’s happening in the church. Please note, children are not to be left unattended.
- Change table – inside the entry to the hall toilets.
Please note, you need to supervise your children in all these areas. And please leave the space as you found it – it’s a huge help!
